General Information About the Navy Federal GO Prepaid Card

Navy Federal GO Prepaid is a reloadable prepaid Visa® Card. It can be used everywhere that accepts Visa Debit Cards—that’s millions of locations worldwide. You can add funds anytime via the mobile app, online or over the phone from your Navy Federal Debit Card or Credit Card (Visa or Mastercard® only). You can view Visa GO Prepaid Card transactions and check the card balance online or on the Navy Federal GO Prepaid App.

GO Prepaid Card accounts can only be opened by an Account Owner who is a Navy Federal member and:

  • has a valid Social Security Number (SSN)
  • has a Navy Federal Debit or Credit Card (Visa or Mastercard only) in their name to fund the card
  • is age 18+

A person is considered a member if they’re listed as primary owner on a Navy Federal Membership Savings Account. There’s no requirement for additional cardholders to be Navy Federal members, but they must be at least 13 or older and possess a valid SSN. Navy Federal requires that all Navy Federal GO Prepaid Cards be printed with the cardholder’s name.

Yes, to open a Navy Federal Visa GO Prepaid Card account, the Account Owner must be at least 18 years old. If you wish to add additional cardholders, they must be at least 13 years old.

Sign in to navyfederal.org/mygoprepaid and click “Activate Your Card”. Have your Navy Federal GO Prepaid Card in hand. You can also activate your card using our mobile app.*

Please note that when you first receive your new GO Prepaid Card, you'll be required to select a 4-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN).

Yes, provided you’re the Account Owner. Only Account Owners can add additional cardholders—up to 5. Cardholders must be at least 13 years of age and have a valid SSN.

No, a cardholder doesn't have to be a member of Navy Federal Credit Union. Non-Navy Federal members can be added as long as they're at least 13 years old and have a valid SSN.

There are 3 ways to fund the GO Prepaid Card.

  • The Account Owner can add funds using their funding card on file. Note: Only the Account Owner can use this method.
  • The Account Owner can also authorize other Navy Federal members to add funds to the card as "Friends/Family."
  • A cardholder can use cash to add funds to the card at ReadyLink locations.

Using the Navy Federal GO Prepaid Card for a purchase is similar to using a debit card. At the time of purchase, select “CREDIT,” sign the receipt and go! Alternatively, select “DEBIT” if prompted and enter your PIN. The Navy Federal GO Prepaid Card can be used for purchases up to the balance remaining on the card; it isn't tied to a line of credit. If you've forgotten your PIN, you can change it by signing in to the GO Prepaid website and selecting "My PIN", under the "My Settings" drop-down menu.

When cash is lost, it's gone forever. However, if the Navy Federal GO Prepaid Card or card number is ever lost or stolen, you're protected with Navy Federal’s Zero Liability policy. Your card will be replaced, the PIN will remain the same and the balance will be transferred to the new card. The replacement card will arrive within 7 to 10 business days.

You and the cardholder may choose to opt in under the registered profile to receive text messages that will update you on your card activity, such as daily available balance, value load and low balance. Please note that message and data rates may apply. You may change your text message options or opt out at any time by editing your notifications or by texting “STOP” to 868472 or 288472.

Adding money to the Navy Federal GO Prepaid Card is the quick and easy way to make sure you have money for everyday uses, travel and emergencies. Just sign in to navyfederal.org/mygoprepaid or your Navy Federal GO Prepaid App anytime, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Remember to verify transfer of the funds before you use the card.

Visa ReadyLink gives you an additional and convenient way of adding value to your Navy Federal GO Prepaid Card and immediate access to those funds. You can find participating Visa ReadyLink locations near you by signing in to the GO Prepaid website and selecting "Reload Locator" under the "Fund My Card" drop-down menu. Present your card, along with the funds to be loaded to the cashier, at any Visa ReadyLink location. Your card will be swiped, and your funds will be applied. The cashier will provide you with a receipt, and you’ll have immediate access to your funds.

Navy Federal doesn't charge you a fee for using this service. Some retailers may charge a fee to load value to the card. Each participating provider and retailer establishes these fees, if any, independently.

If the participating Visa ReadyLink merchant couldn't add funds to your Navy Federal GO Prepaid Card, your load request was most likely not approved. You may have exceeded the daily load limit or the total balance on the card. Merchants may also place limits on the frequency of loads.

Your card is eligible to receive funds through Visa Money Transfer from participating financial institutions. Navy Federal Credit Union isn't an originator of Visa Money Transfer; therefore, you cannot initiate a Visa Money Transfer from your Visa GO Prepaid Card to another card.

Merchants cannot tell how much money is on the card until you try to make a purchase. Any attempt to make a purchase for an amount that's greater than the cardholder’s available balance will be declined. It's important for the cardholder to keep track of their available balance to help avoid this situation.

You can use a second payment method (cash, check, or a credit or debit card) in combination with the Navy Federal GO Prepaid Card to make a purchase greater than the balance on the card. It’s okay for the card to fully deplete funds. If this happens, simply follow the appropriate steps to replenish the card.

Negative balances can occur if a merchant posts a pending transaction and there are nonsufficient funds. In these rare circumstances where nonsufficient funds occur, you'll be notified to load more funds onto the card. Navy Federal reserves the right to close (a) card(s) that remain(s) negative (see Terms & Conditions). If you make a purchase that exceeds the available balance on the card, you're responsible for the amount of the purchases approved or the cash withdrawn. We recommend checking the balance on your card before using it.

You can check the card balance by signing in to navyfederal.org/mygoprepaid or the Navy Federal GO Prepaid App.

It's important to know that some merchants like restaurants and fuel stations “reserve” more money than you may actually plan to spend. They do this to cover variable costs like tips or a tank of gas. Within 3 to 7 days, the “reserve” cancels and the funds become available again on the Navy Federal GO Prepaid Card.

We caution against using your card at automated fuel pumps since the transaction could result in a decline or an inconvenient hold on available funds, which could last several days. Instead, we recommend prepaying for your gas purchase in person with your card at the cashier.

You should call (866) 304-1909 immediately. Your replacement card will arrive in 7 to 10 business days. The PIN will remain the same, and the balance will transfer to the new card.

You can change your PIN by signing in to the GO Prepaid website and selecting "My PIN" under the "My Settings" drop-down menu.

You can suspend the card at any time, for any reason. The Navy Federal GO Prepaid Card cannot be used again until you reactivate it. This can be done by signing in to your account on the website and selecting "Suspend Card" under the "My Settings" drop-down menu. Additionally, you can suspend your card via the NFCU Prepaid App under "Account Settings" or by calling (866) 304-1909

You can close your Navy Federal GO Prepaid Card via the website or by calling (866) 304-1909. Please keep in mind that once you've permanently closed your card, you cannot reactivate or reopen it. Although you can no longer use the Navy Federal GO Prepaid Card, it will remain active for 7 days so all pending transactions have posted; the available balance will be credited to your funding account. For refunds issued after card closure, please contact us at (866) 304-1909, and a representative will assist with submitting a request to return the funds back to the Account Owner's funding account.

If you’re the account owner, you can close the cardholder's Navy Federal GO Prepaid Card by signing in to your profile on the website (navyfederal.org/mygoprepaid). A renewal Navy Federal GO Prepaid Card is sent to the address of record 2 months prior to the existing card’s expiration date. Your existing card will remain active until the last day of the month in which the card expires. Please destroy your current card once you receive the renewal card.
