VIENNA, Va. (September 15, 2020) – Today, the National Association of Federally-Insured Credit Unions (NAFCU) recognized Navy Federal Credit Union's Mark Lawton with its 2020 Paul Revere Award. Each year, NAFCU recognizes a credit union advocate for their grassroots and political efforts on behalf of the credit union movement.

“It is truly an honor to be recognized with NAFCU’s Paul Revere Award,” said Mark Lawton, Navy Federal Credit Union’s Senior Vice President, Regulatory Compliance and Public Policy. “Credit unions’ mission of serving their members and local communities is unparalleled in financial services, and I am proud to support our cooperative, not-for-profit industry. I look forward to continuing to be a strong, reliable grassroots advocate, and I encourage other credit union leaders to join our efforts as well.”

The award was presented at NAFCU's annual Congressional Caucus.

"In the past year, Mark has engaged with dozens of members of Congress to ensure they’re up to speed and well-educated on credit union issues," said Chad Adams, NAFCU Director, Political Affairs. "Mark has truly gone above and beyond the call of duty."

To be considered for the Paul Revere Award, candidates must have:

  • worked at a NAFCU-member credit union;
  • held at least two meetings during 2019 or 2020 with each of their members of Congress(two senators and one representative);
  • responded to all NAFCU Grassroots Alerts by completing the actions requested, such as phone calls, emails and letters to their lawmakers; and
  • remained in regular contact with NAFCU for the most up-to-date legislative and regulatory information.
